Western Wyoming Community College
The state of Wyoming is not known to have world class higher education institutions, but there are actually a lot of quality colleges located there. Most of the students prefer these smaller schools because not everybody can avail, or afford, to attend high end universities and schools. In the state of Wyoming, there are several smaller colleges that are much more accessible to the public. Among these schools include the Western Wyoming Community College.
Western Wyoming Community College, also known as WWCC, is a 2 year college found in the city of Rock Springs in the state of Wyoming. The school offers 1-year certificates and 2-year associate degrees, and some 4-year degrees in associates with other schools in the school including the University of Wyoming. The school campus is also unique because of the unique weather of its location, where there are harsh winters. Because of this, all of the main college rooms are indoors and are connected with hallways.
Western Wyoming Community College was the 5th of seven community colleges in the state of Wyoming. The school was established in 1959. Then in 1960, the college moved to reliance, just 5 miles from Rock Springs to make use of the former Reliance High School for classes. Then in 1964, the district expanded to include all communities in Sweetwater County, and the school changed its name to its current of Western Wyoming Community College. In 1976, three residence halls were built for on campus housing. In the late 80’s the school built a commons area, new classrooms and laboratories, a children’s center, a theatre and a several studios. The most recent construction was in 2008, when a 6th residence hall was built.
The school has an average student body of over 5,000 per term. These students are enrolled in credit, non-credit, and extension programs. Western Wyoming Community College offers 2-year transfer programs for students pursuing a baccalaureate degree. These programs allow students to continue their education with affiliated 4-year schools. There are also 2 year occupational degrees and occupational certificate programs that allow graduates to join the workforce directly. Among the programs include Business, Humanities and Fine Arts, Science and Mathematics, Technology and Industry, Health Science, Social Science. The school colors are red, white, and black and the school nickname are the Mustangs.
